Dashain food recipes to try: You will love them!!

When Dashain comes, we think about delicious foods to eat. But, Dashain food is mostly meat-related food with millions of animal sacrifices. However, if we stop to think is it really necessary to enjoy a festival with the killing of innocents. There are a lot of foods to try, while also enjoying a cruelty-free Dashain. So, here are some vegetarian Dashain food recipes for you to try, and reinvent your festive diet:

Paneer curry

First of on our list of Dashain food recipes, is paneer curry. Paneer is a good staple food and is high on nutrients. It is everyone’s favorite and you will love making and eating this.

Ingredients required:

  • 1 tsp gram flour
  • 300 gram of paneer
  • ½ tsp red chili powder
  • ½  tsp turmeric powder
  • 4 tbsp oil
  • ½ tsp of cumin seed
  • 3-4 pieces of garlic cloves
  • 1-2 pieces of cinnamon
  • 2-3 dry chilies
  • ½ tsp asafoetida
  • 2 green cardamom
  • 3 onions finely chopped
  • 2 small pieces of ginger
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp cumin powder
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • 4 tomatoes grated
  • 3-4 tbsp yogurt
  • Salt according to taste

Preparation:

Dry roast the gram flour on low to medium flame for about 1-2 minutes. Transfer it to the plate and keep it aside. Cut the 300gm of paneer in small cubical shapes. It’s time to marinate it with the dry spices! In a bowl, add salt according to taste, ½ red chili powder and ½ turmeric powder with paneer. This will help with enhancing the strong flavor of paneer in the curry.

In a medium flame, take 2tsp of oil in a pan and fry the paneer pieces. Fry it for about 1-2 minutes on each side. Transfer the paneer to a plate and add another 2 tsp of oil in the pan.

After the oil is well heated, add ½ tsp cumin seed, a piece of cinnamon, dry chilies and 1 tsp of asafoetida. Add 2 green cardamoms and fry it for about 2 minutes. Add finely chopped onions and fry it for another 4-5 minutes. Adding the small crushed pieces of ginger, fry it still the colors of onions are slightly brownish. To the paste add ½ tsp cumin powder, ½ tsp of garam masala and cook it for another 1 minute.

Bring the flame to low and add the tomato puree in it. Cover the lid for about 7 min to cook the tomatoes properly. For a thick and sweet gravy add 3-4 tsp of greek yogurt and stir it properly. Add fried pieces of paneer and set it on a high flame for about 4-5 minutes. Adding salt according to taste, your paneer curry is ready!

Next, on our list of Dashain food recipes for you to try, is Mushroom choila. Mushroom is also high in nutrients and is a favorite of most people. And the spicy, savory taste will water anybody’s mouth.

  • 1 lb oyster mushroom
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 2 small pieces of ginger
  • 1/3 cup chopped spring onion
  • 3 chopped green chilies
  • ½ tsp fenugreek seeds
  • ½ tsp mix of cumin
  • 3 soaked dried chilies
  • ½ tsp  coriander powder
  • 1 medium-sized boiled and peeled tomatoes
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp oil (mustard)

Preparation

Firstly wash the mushroom with warm water and squeeze the water out of the mushroom. Heat the pan on medium heat and fry the mushrooms. While the mushrooms are being fried, take 3 garlic cloves, 2 small pieces of ginger, 1/3 cup chopped spring onion, 3 chopped green chilies, 3 soaked dried chilies, ½ tsp mix of cumin, ½ tsp coriander powder, 1 medium-sized boiled and peeled tomatoes and blend it well in a grinder. Fry the mushrooms until a little red and crispy.

Remove the mushroom from the flames and set is aside. Mix the mixture and the mushrooms well in a bowl. Take the hot pan and add 1 tbsp of oil. When the oil is hot add  ½ tsp fenugreek seeds, ½ tsp pepper, and ½ tsp turmeric powder. Add the oil in the mushroom and mix it well. Your mushroom choila is ready.

Another of Dashain food recipes: Tofu Chili

Straight from the list of simple yet delicious Dashain food recipes to try is Tofu Chili. You will love the bit tangy, bit sweet flavor with the soft tofu.

Ingredients:

  • 200 gms of Tofu
  • ½ tsp Chili paste
  • 1 tbsp  Cornstarch
  • 1 ½ tbsp flour
  • 2 tsp water
  • 1 tsp tomato ketchup
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 2  chopped bell pepper
  • 1 tbsp soya sauce
  • 1 tbsp green chili sauce
  • 2 chopped onions
  • 1 tbsp pepper powder
  • 4-5 cloves of garlic
  • 4 tpsb oil
  • Salt to taste

Preparation:

To prepare the batter in a bowl take some chili paste, salt, cornstarch, flour, little water and make a slightly thick batter. Cut the 200gms of tofu in cubes. Coat the tofu with the batter gently.

Turn the flame on medium heat and heat the pan and add 2tbsp of oil and fry the tofu gently on each side. In a bowl add tomato ketchup, vinegar, salt, soya sauce, green chili sauce, pepper powder and mix it well. Along with that, re-heat the pan and 2tbsp oil and add finely chopped ginger, garlic, green chilies and sauté. Then add red, green and yellow colored bell peppers and onions. Cook it for 5 minutes and add the gravy and bring to boil.  Finally, add salt to taste and add the tofu. Serve it hot.
